Basic Marionette Repairs

Has your marionette gotten itself tangled? Trampled on? Caught? Pulled apart? Here, you will find a few basic repair instructions to common mishaps that come as a result of thoroughly, and sometimes roughly, playing with one's marionette.

No fluff between the puffs?

No fluff between the puffs:

No need to worry. This generally happens when a baby pulls on the leg or arm of a pom-pom marionette or when the marionette gets caught.

The pom-pom marionettes are made up of strings of pom-poms. All that needs to be done is a slight adjustment of their spacing. On either side of the exposed string, pull the pom-poms over the string until they are well spaced. Fluff and continue playing.

Removing the strings for untangling:

If you find your marionette has gotten itself into tangles, knowing how to remove the strings will surely help!

Start by lifting the string up the slot and around to the top. Give a gentle tug. The line is strong, but if it won't move, then pull the string back down and try again. Sometimes the bead, which the string is tied to, is in the wrong position. Once one string is out, let go of it.

At the hand or shoulder of the marionette, find the loose string and give it a pull. Often times it will come right out of small tangles. For larger tangles, you may need to get some good lighting and help the string and bead find their way out. Do the same for the other removeable string.

Once the marionette is no longer tangled, place the bead back onto the hole and pull down on the string. This will pull the bead back into the hole.
